Time is an extensible multimedia framework developed by Apple Inc., capable of handling various formats of digital video, picture, sound, panoramic images, and interactivity. First made in 1. 99. Mac version, Quick. Time X, is currently available on Mac OS X Snow Leopard and newer. Apple ceased support for the Windows version of Quick. Time in 2. 01. 6. Quick. Time for Microsoft Windows is downloadable as a standalone installation, and was bundled with Apple's i. Tunes prior to i. Tunes 1. 0. 5, but is no longer supported and therefore security vulnerabilities will no longer be patched. There are some other free player applications that rely on the Quick. Time framework, providing features not available in the basic Quick. Time Player. For example, i. Tunes can export audio in WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC, and Apple Lossless. In addition, mac. OS has a simple Apple. Script that can be used to play a movie in full- screen mode. Until recently, Apple's professional applications (e. Final Cut Studio, Logic Studio) included a Quick. Time Pro license. Pro keys are specific to the major version of Quick. Time for which they are purchased and unlock additional features of the Quick. Time Player application on mac. OS or Windows. Quick. Time 7 includes presets for exporting video to a video- capable i. Pod, Apple TV, and the i. Phone. Saving existing Quick. Time movies from the web directly to a hard disk drive. This is often, but not always, either hidden or intentionally blocked in the standard mode. Two options exist for saving movies from a web browser. Save as source – This option will save the embedded video in its original format. Quick. Time Player X lacks cut, copy and paste and will only export to four formats, but its limited export feature is free. Users do not have an option to upgrade to a Pro version of Quick. Time X, but those who have already purchased Quick. Time 7 Pro and are upgrading to Snow Leopard from a previous version of Mac OS X will have Quick. Time 7 stored in the Utilities or user defined folder. Otherwise, users will have to install Quick. Time 7 from the . No installer for Quick. Time 7 is included with these software packages, but users can download the Quick. Time 7 installer from the Apple support site. Quick. Time X on later versions of mac. OS support cut, copy and paste functions similarly to the way Quick. Time 7 Pro did; the interface has been significantly modified to simplify these operations, however. The downloadable version of Quick. Time 7 is also still supported. Quick. Time framework. Command- line utilities afconvert (to convert audio formats), avconvert (to concert video formats) and qtmodernizer (to automatically convert older formats to H. AAC) are provided with mac. As the world begins to crumble around him. Each track either contains a digitally encoded media stream (using a specific format) or a data reference to the media stream located in another file. The ability to contain abstract data references for the media data, and the separation of the media data from the media offsets and the track edit lists means that Quick. Time is particularly suited for editing, as it is capable of importing and editing in place (without data copying). Box office Chart: Top Movies this Weekend by Box offfice gross in the US. The lead developer of Quick. Time, Bruce Leak, ran the first public demonstration at the May 1. Worldwide Developers Conference, where he played Apple's famous 1. The first publicly visible use of Quick. Time was Ben & Jerry's interactive factory tour (dubbed The Rik & Joe Show after its in- house developers). The Rik and Joe Show was demonstrated onstage at Mac. World in San Francisco when John Sculley announced Quick. Time. This added the Super. Mac- developed Cinepak vector- quantization video codec (initially known as Compact Video). It could play video at 3. It also added text tracks, which allowed for captioning, lyrics and other potential uses. Apple contracted San Francisco Canyon Company to port Quick. Time to the Windows platform. Version 1. 0 of Quick. Time for Windows provided only a subset of the full Quick. Time API, including only movie playback functions driven through the standard movie controller. Quick. Time 1. 6 came out the following year. Version 1. 6. 2 first incorporated the . It added support for music tracks, which contained the equivalent of MIDI data and which could drive a sound- synthesis engine built into Quick. Time itself (using a limited set of instrument sounds licensed from Roland), or any external MIDI- compatible hardware, thereby producing sounds using only small amounts of movie data. Following Bruce Leak's departure to Web TV, the leadership of the Quick. Time team was taken over by Peter Hoddie. Quick. Time 2. 0 for Windows appeared in November 1. Paul Charlton. As part of the development effort for cross- platform Quick. Time, Charlton (as architect and technical lead), along with ace individual contributor Michael Kellner and a small highly effective team including Keith Gurganus, ported a subset of the Macintosh Toolbox to Intel and other platforms (notably, MIPS and SGI Unix variants) as the enabling infrastructure for the Quick. Time Media Layer (QTML) which was first demonstrated at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in May 1. The QTML later became the foundation for the Carbon API which allowed legacy Macintosh applications to run on the Darwin kernel in Mac OS X. They improved the music support and added sprite tracks which allowed the creation of complex animations with the addition of little more than the static sprite images to the size of the movie. Quick. Time 2. 5 also fully integrated Quick. Time VR 2. 0. 1 into Quick. Time as a Quick. Time extension. On January 1. 6, 1. Apple released the Quick. Time MPEG Extension (PPC only) as an add- on to Quick. Time 2. 5, which added software MPEG- 1 playback capabilities to Quick. Time. Lawsuit against San Francisco Canyon. Microsoft and Intel were added to the lawsuit in 1. The suit ended in a settlement in 1. Quick. Time 3. x. Apple also licensed several third- party technologies for inclusion in Quick. Time 3. 0, including the Sorenson Video codec for advanced video compression, the QDesign Music codec for substantial audio compression, and the complete Roland Sound Canvas instrument set and GS Format extensions for improved playback of MIDI music files. It also added video effects which programmers could apply in real- time to video tracks. Some of these effects would even respond to mouse clicks by the user, as part of the new movie interaction support (known as wired movies). Quick. Time interactive. Although similar in concept to the wired movies feature released as part of Quick. Time 3. 0, Quick. Time interactive was much more ambitious. It allowed any Quick. Time movie to be a fully interactive and programmable container for media. A special track type was added that contained an interpreter for a custom programming language based on 6. This supported a comprehensive user interaction model for mouse and keyboard event handling based in part on the AML language from the Apple Media Tool. The Quick. Time interactive movie was to have been the playback format for the next generation of Hyper. Card authoring tool. Both the Quick. Time interactive and the Hyper. Card 3. 0 projects were canceled in order to concentrate engineering resources on streaming support for Quick. Time 4. 0, and the projects were never released to the public. Quick. Time 4. x. Three minor updates (versions 4. It was accompanied by the release of the free Quick. Time Streaming Server version 1. Quick. Time 4 Player introduced brushed metal to the Macintosh user interface. On December 1. 7, 1. Apple provided Quick. Time 4. 1, this version's first major update. This version was the last to have greater capabilities under Mac OS 9 than under Mac OS X, and the last version of Quick. Time to support Mac OS versions 7. Power. PC Mac and Windows 9. Version 5. 0 was initially only released for Mac OS and Mac OS X on April 1. April 2. 3, 2. 00. Mac OS, Mac OS X, and Windows. Development of Quick. Time 6 for Mac OS slowed considerably in early 2. Mac OS X v. 10. 2 in August 2. Quick. Time 6 for Mac OS continued on the 6. Versions 6. 5. 1 and 6. April 2. 8, 2. 00. October 2. 7, 2. 00. These versions would be the last to support Windows 9. Me. The 6. 5 family added the following features. Version 7. 0. 4, released on January 1. But it suffered numerous bugs, including a buffer overrun, which is more problematic to most users. Apple dropped support for Windows 2. Quick. Time 7. 2 on July 1. Quick. Time 7. 2 is the first version for Windows Vista.

Part 1: Quality Improvement (QI) and the Importance of QIPart 2: Before Beginning - Establish an Organizational Foundation for QIPart 3: QI Programs - The Improvement Journey. Part 4: Supporting the QI Program - Keep the Momentum Going. Part 5: References. Part 6: Additional Resources. Part 1: Quality Improvement (QI) and the Importance of QIQuality Improvement (QI)Quality improvement (QI) consists of systematic and continuous actions that lead to measurable improvement in health care services and the health status of targeted patient groups. The Institute of Medicine's (IOM) which is a recognized leader and advisor on improving the Nation's health care, defines quality in health care as a direct correlation between the level of improved health services and the desired health outcomes of individuals and populations (1). Principles of QIWhen quality is considered from the IOM's perspective, then an organization's current system is defined as how things are done now, whereas health care performance is defined by an organization's efficiency and outcome of care, and level of patient satisfaction. Quality is directly linked to an organization's service delivery approach or underlying systems of care. To achieve a different level of performance (i. While each QI program may appear different, a successful program always incorporates the following four key principles (2): QI work as systems and processes. Focus on patients. Focus on being part of the team. Focus on use of the data. The next subsections describe these four QI principles in more depth. QI Work as Systems and Processes. To make improvements, an organization needs to understand its own delivery system and key processes. The concepts behind the QI approaches in this toolkit recognize that both resources (inputs) and activities carried out (processes) are addressed together to ensure or improve quality of care (outputs/outcomes). A health service delivery system can be small and simple, such as, an immunization clinic, or large and complex, like a large managed- care organization. QI can assume many forms and is most effective if it is individualized to meet the needs of a specific organization's health service delivery system. Figure 1. 1 shows how a health care delivery system consists of resources, activities, and results; these key components are also called inputs, processes, and outputs/outcomes: Source: Donabedian (1. In response to Consumer Reports' questions about these quality issues, a Tesla spokeswoman wrote in an email: “We are committed to making the world's most reliable. Figure 1. 1: Inputs, Processes and Outputs/Outcomes. Activities or processes within a health care organization contain two major components: 1) what is done (what care is provided), and 2) how it is done (when, where, and by whom care is delivered). Improvement can be achieved by addressing either component; however, the greatest impact for QI is when both are addressed at the same time. Process mapping is a tool commonly used by an organization to better understand the health care processes within its practice system. This tool gained popularity in engineering before being adapted by health care. A process map provides a visual diagram of a sequence of events that result in a particular outcome. By reviewing the steps and their sequence as to who performs each step, and how efficiently the process works, an organization can often visualize opportunities for improvement. The process mapping tool may also be used to evaluate or redesign a current process. Additional information, including tools and resources to assist an organization that wants to adopt process mapping as an improvement strategy, can be found in the Redesigning a System of Care to Promote QI module. Specific steps are required to deliver optimal health care services. What is "indoor air quality"? Indoor air quality (also called "indoor environmental quality") describes how inside air can affect a person's health, comfort, and. Primary Causes of Indoor Air Problems. Indoor pollution sources that release gases or particles into the air are the primary cause of indoor air quality problems. Title: How can we identify product quality problems and minimize their effect on our customers and financial liability? Created Date: 4/5/2007 5:19:12 PM. Many of the most hated companies angered the public because of quality. The company’s problems were compounded. If you are having print quality problems, first perform a test print. Then, compare your test printing with the illustrations below. Quality Assurance and Quality Control are two very closely related concepts and because of that close relationship they are often confused and one is inappropriately. A COMEDY ABOUT CANCER. Interview with the filmmakers;. Quality Problems is a survival story about the healing power of. Health Care Quality and Access. Despite high health care spending levels, many preventable quality problems such as health-care-associated infections continue to persist. Johnson & Johnson Still Struggling with Quality. The problem is that while problems continue to crop up, the business is worrying more about image than quality. When these steps are tied to pertinent clinical guidelines, then optimal outcomes are achieved. These essential steps are referred to as the critical (or clinical) pathway. The critical pathway steps can be mapped as described above. By mapping the current critical pathway for a particular service, an organization gains a better understanding of what and how care is provided. When an organization compares its map to one that shows optimal care for a service that is congruent with evidence- based guidelines (i. In this module, improvement strategies are presented based on what has worked for other health care organizations. Changes are applied throughout an existing critical pathway so it works more effectively. QI strives to enable an organization to achieve the ideal critical pathway, which is one that allows the care team and patient to interact productively and efficiently to achieve optimal health outcomes. The following illustrative example reinforces the benefits of understanding systems and key processes in approaching a performance improvement project: Focus on Patients. An important measure of quality is the extent to which patients' needs and expectations are met. Services that are designed to meet the needs and expectations of patients and their community include: Systems that affect patient access. Care provision that is evidence- based. Patient safety. Support for patient engagement. Coordination of care with other parts of the larger health care system. Cultural competence, including assessing health literacy of patients, patient- centered communication, and linguistically appropriate care. A health care facility decided to target the accuracy of its medication lists as a way to improve patient safety. Based on its research, the facility staff understood the benefits of implementing information technology as an input or resource to improve the consistency and completeness of its medical documentation. The staff noted that technology adds more value when the focus also includes key processes or activities, such as, developing an effective workflow and staff proficiency in using the technology. The health care facility purchased an electronic medical record (EMR) system as its key component for input and also focused on processes; i. Focus on Being Part of the Team. At its core, QI is a team process. Under the right circumstances, a team harnesses the knowledge, skills, experience, and perspectives of different individuals within the team to make lasting improvements. A team approach is most effective when: The process or system is complex. No one person in an organization knows all the dimensions of an issue. The process involves more than one discipline or work area. Solutions require creativity. Staff commitment and buy- in are needed. In other words, virtually all QI projects involve a team process. Whether an organization is seeking to improve patient wait times, telephone service, diabetes care, or other goals it deems important, a team effort helps an organization to achieve significant and lasting improvements. It is the responsibility of each individual to be an active and contributing member of the team. Each person on a team brings a unique perspective to the process; i. Contributions are made from each individual's skill set and the team's synthesis of ideas. Additional information, including tools and resources to assist an organization in developing and supporting a QI team within its organization, can be found in the Improvement Teams module. In addition to staff, a key component of a well- functioning QI team is an effective infrastructure, such as, leadership, and policies and procedures to organize and facilitate the work of the team. Infrastructure support affords the team with tools, resources, clear expectations, and a forum for communication. More detail is provided in The Role of Organizational Leadership. This level of infrastructure helps a team to stay on a clear path, while being mindful of an organization's available resources and its goal. Focus on Use of the Data. Data is the cornerstone of QI. It is used to describe how well current systems are working; what happens when changes are applied, and to document successful performance. Using data: Separates what is thought to be happening from what is really happening. Establishes a baseline (Starting with low scores is ok)Reduces placement of ineffective solutions. Allows monitoring of procedural changes to ensure that improvements are sustained. Indicates whether changes lead to improvements. Allows comparisons of performance across sites. Both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection are helpful in QI efforts. Quantitative methods involve the use of numbers and frequencies that result in measurable data. This type of information is easy to analyze statistically and is familiar to science and health care professionals. Examples in a health care setting include: Finding the average of a specific laboratory value. Calculating the frequencies of timely access to care. Calculating the percentages of patients that receive an appropriate health screening. Qualitative methods collect data with descriptive characteristics, rather than numeric values that draw statistical inferences. Qualitative data is observable but not measurable, and it provides important information about patterns, relationships between systems, and is often used to provide context for needed improvements. Common strategies for collecting qualitative data in a health care setting are: Patient and staff satisfaction surveys. Focus- group discussions. Independent observations. A health care organization already has considerable data from various sources, such as, clinical records, practice management systems, satisfaction surveys, external evaluations of the population's health, and others. Focusing on existing data in a disciplined and methodical way allows an organization to evaluate its current system, identify opportunities for improvement, and monitor performance improvement over time. When an organization wants to narrow its focus on specific data for its QI program, one strategy is to adopt standardized performance measures. ![]() Money - Financial & Business News, Stocks. This expression is derived from the saying, “He gets a monkey’s allowance—more kicks than halfpence.” At one time, trained monkeys performed tricks and then collected money from passers- by. If the monkey performed poorly, its owner often kicked or otherwise punished the animal. Thus, the monkey’s allowance was frequently more abuse than money. By extension, a person who receives a “monkey’s allowance” is one who works diligently but receives little, if any, payment for his labor. A related expression is monkey’s money . Originally, a nest egg was a natural or artificial egg which was placed in a hen’s nest to induce her to lay eggs of her own.
